Glorify God!

Moon by Day1Co 10:31 tells us “So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” Some people attempt to identify themselves as Christians by the way they talk, or dress and frequently by how much they pray or go to church. Though doing or not doing these make us appear religious, we are only true Christians when we do all things for the glory of God.

To glorify God is to give honor, praise, and worship, to proclaim his greatness and to come into alignment with his plans and purposes. To glorify God is to give him praise and honor not only when things are going well, but we praise and honor Him in hard times. Glorifying God is using our talents and gifts to lift up the name of the Lord. Brothers and sisters, we glorify God when we desire to know Him better through prayer and studying His Word. God Said in Isaiah 43:7: “Bring all who claim me as their God, for I have made them for my glory. It was I who created them.’”

Resisting Evil Draws you Closer to God

Resisting Evil Draws you Closer to God

When we were born into this world, we all had a tendency to sin. Psalms 51:5 tells us that we were shapened in iniquity in sin did our mother conceive. What this means is that we are decedents of Adam and Eve. We are natural born sinners. Put two toddlers in a room and give them one ball to play with and sit back and watch what happens. Eventually they will fight over the ball. Nobody had to teach those toddlers how to be selfish.

It is not until we receive Jesus Christ into our lives that we become a new creation. However delayed salvation makes it harder to separate from our old sinful habits we have nourished for years. For instance, some people have a tendency to lie, others have a tendency to steal, and people have a particular type of nature they may nurture over and over again. If you have a tendency to steal and nourish that tendency by continuing to steal, this tendency becomes a full-blown thing that you perform  by not paying attention to your conscience. You have nurtured that tendency so that it is second nature to you. The Word of God has the power to change bad habits that are totally out of line with the will of God. The Blood of Jesus cleanses us from all unrighteous and sinful acts.

2 Timothy 3:1-7 King James Version (KJV) outlines major sinful acts happening right now.

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

Traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with diver’s lusts,

Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

We must strive to abandon our old sinful nature and draw closer to God:

James 4:1-10 New Living Translation (NLT) gives us the remedy to getting rid of sins hold on you

What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Don’t they come from the evil desires at war within you? You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it. And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure. You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God. What do you think the Scriptures mean when they say that the spirit God has placed within us is filled with envy? But he gives us even more grace to stand against such evil desires. As the Scriptures say,

“God opposes the proud

but favors the humble.”

So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.  Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.  Let there be tears for what you have done. Let there be sorrow and deep grief. Let there be sadness instead of laughter, and gloom instead of joy. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.
