Many humans believe that good works that will gain them entrance into heaven. This belief is due to a false perception of their identity. In our our own efforts we are incapable of being righteous. Psalm 51:5 says behold, I was shapened in iniquity and in sin did my mother conceive me. Until a person surrenders his or her life to the Lord, they are actually doing what they are supposed to do. Sinners SIN, and there is no reason to get angry at them and be judgmental.
Before a person becomes born again, they do not actually have a genuine love for God. Second Timothy 3:1-7 (NIV) states: But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred and they are without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God– having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them. They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over weak-willed women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, always learning but never able to acknowledge the truth.
Wow! These are sharp words coming from the Bible right? Brothers and sisters, when we willfully and continuously engage in the above activities, then we are still of the sinful and worldly mind. Notice I said if you willfully continuously engage in sin. This means premeditated sinning, this is not when we stumble and make honest mistakes on the journey of change. No one who does this has surrendered his or her life over to God so He can bring about that beautiful transformation to true his or her identity. The Bible tells us in Romans chapter 8 that if we are living like this, then we cannot please God. Romans 10:26 states: If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left; Jesus was on that cross once and for all the world and there are no more sacrifices for the remission of sins. We cannot stop sinning with divine intervention.
Overall, rejection of Jesus Christ is what sends us straight to Hell. Rejecting Jesus is the same as rejecting your only way of escaping from the wrath of God against sin (Mark 16:16). God would not be a righteous God if He did not punish sins. However, we should give praise and honor to God for He made a way out of this mess Adam and Eve put us in. God sent Jesus to save lost sinners (Matthew 18:11).Because God sees Jesus in us we are justified (Romans 3:24), sanctified, redeemed and no longer condemned.
